Lumecca Peak

What is Lumecca Peak?

Lumecca Peak is an advanced IPL (intense pulsed light) treatment that utilises high-intensity, broad-spectrum light to target pigmentation and vascular concerns within the skin. While often referred to as a “laser” treatment, IPL differs in that it delivers multiple wavelengths of light, allowing for more versatile treatment of both pigment and redness.

Many clients opt for Lumecca to improve:

  • Sun damage and age spots
  • Freckles
  • Uneven or blotchy skin tone
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Certain cases of melasma
  • Rosacea and general facial redness
  • Broken capillaries and thread veins
  • Redness on the neck, chest, hands or legs
  • Skin rejuvenation

We often recommend Lumecca over older IPL systems because it can produce visible results in fewer sessions.

Lumecca Peak

How Does Lumecca Work?

Lumecca IPL delivers short bursts of light into the skin. That light is absorbed by excess pigment (brown spots) or by haemoglobin in visible blood vessels.

The targeted pigment or vessel heats up and breaks down without damaging surrounding tissue. Your body then clears it naturally over the following days and weeks. The fragmented pigment or coagulated vessels are then gradually cleared by the body’s natural healing processes. In cases of pigmentation, treated areas may temporarily darken before naturally exfoliating. Vascular lesions and redness progressively fade as the affected vessels are reabsorbed.

In addition to targeting visible imperfections, Lumecca also induces controlled dermal heating, stimulating fibroblast activity and promoting collagen synthesis. This contributes to improvements in skin texture, tone, and overall skin quality, supporting a brighter, smoother, and more rejuvenated appearance.

At BU Aesthetics™, we use a precision spot-size adaptor where needed. That means we can treat small or delicate areas more accurately, which is especially helpful around the nose or on fine capillaries.

Why is Lumecca Peak Different?

Lumecca Peak is a next-generation IPL technology designed to deliver enhanced results compared to traditional IPL systems and earlier devices. It utilises higher peak power and optimised energy delivery, allowing for more precise targeting of pigmentation and vascular concerns.

This improved efficiency often means visible results in fewer treatment sessions, with more consistent clinical outcomes. Advanced pulse control and integrated cooling also enhance treatment comfort and safety, particularly in delicate areas.

Overall, Lumecca Peak offers a more refined, results-driven approach to skin rejuvenation, improving skin clarity, tone, and overall skin quality with minimal downtime.

Frequently Asked Questions

Lumecca treatment is a straightforward, well-tolerated procedure. We will apply a cooling gel and place the handpiece against your skin. You’ll feel a warm snapping sensation with each pulse.

A cooling gel is applied to the skin before the handpiece is placed against the treatment area. You may experience a brief, warm snapping sensation with each pulse of light, which most patients find comfortable without the need for topical anaesthesia.

Immediately following treatment, your skin may look pink and feel warm, similar to mild sun exposure. This usually settles within a day or two.

Pigmented lesions may temporarily darken before naturally exfoliating over the following days, while vascular concerns such as redness or thread veins gradually fade as the body clears the treated vessels.

Most patients can return to normal daily activities immediately; however, strict sun protection is essential, including the use of a broad-spectrum SPF and avoidance of direct UV exposure to optimise results and reduce the risk of complications.

Lumecca can be used across a range of skin types; however, treatment is always tailored to the individual. It is particularly effective for pigmentation and vascular concerns such as redness and broken capillaries.

A comprehensive consultation is essential to assess your skin type, medical history, and suitability. Where IPL is not appropriate, alternative treatments will be recommended to ensure safe and effective results.

If you have melasma, active rosacea flare-ups, or very sensitive skin, a more cautious and tailored approach is required.

During your consultation, we will assess your skin type, medical history, current skincare, and recent sun exposure to determine whether Lumecca is appropriate and to ensure safe, effective treatment. Where IPL is not the most suitable option, alternative treatments will be recommended to achieve the best possible outcomes.

It depends on the concern and the area treated. Some patients notice visible improvement following a single session; however, most will benefit from a course of 2–3 treatments spaced four to six weeks apart.

In unsuitable candidates, there is a risk that pigmentation may worsen. Lumecca works by targeting melanin within the skin, and in cases where pigmentation is hormonally driven—such as certain forms of melasma—or where there has been recent sun exposure, light-based treatments may stimulate further pigmentation.

This is why appropriate patient selection and pre-treatment assessment are essential. At consultation, we will determine whether Lumecca is the most suitable option for your skin, and provide guidance on skin preparation to minimise risks and optimise results.

Although Lumecca isn’t primarily an acne treatment, it can improve red or brown marks left behind after breakouts, and it may help reduce background redness. But if you’re dealing with ongoing, inflamed acne, that usually needs a different treatment plan first.
