Hyaluronic acid

What are skin boosters?

Hyaluronic acid is created naturally in our skin to act as a moisturiser to maintain plump, hydrated, and youthful skin by attracting water to the tissue and binding with collagen and elastin. Ageing reduces the production of natural hyaluronic acid leading to thinner skin and poor texture. At BU Aesthetics™ in Merseyside, we use Teoysal Redensity 1, a non-invasive skin booster containing hyaluronic acid and additional ingredients to revitalise, redensify, and moisturise the skin.

How do we use skin boosters?

Injectable skin boosters are used in a different way from dermal fillers; they improve the hydration, quality, and elasticity of the skin, rather than defining facial features or replacing lost volume. Skin boosters, like Teosyal Redensity 1 are injected into the mid-dermal layer of the skin where the hyaluronic acid will attract the most water, helping to plump and rehydrate the skin, giving a more youthful appearance. Other active ingredients are combined in this skin redensification treatment to have a synergistic effect on improving the skin.

Frequently Asked Questions

Hyaluronic acid is created naturally by our bodies to act as a moisturiser to maintain healthy joints and skin that is plump, smooth, hydrated, supported, and youthful. It attracts water to the tissue and binds with collagen and elastin. Our natural hyaluronic acid is broken down by an enzyme called hyaluronidase once it has done its job, with fresh hyaluronic acid made continuously by the body.

Unfortunately, as we age, we produce less hyaluronic acid each day, leading to reduced hydration and poor skin texture, plus volume loss, wrinkle formation, and tissue descent as the plump cushioning and support of our youth ceases. Synthetic forms of hyaluronic acid have been cross-linked to create long-lasting dermal fillers to replace this lost volume and rebuild facial features, whilst non-cross-linked, pure hyaluronic acid skin boosters can be mixed with complementary ingredients to have a synergistic effect on restoring skin hydration to rejuvenate the face, and other areas prone to skin ageing such as hands, neck, and décolletage.

We use hyaluronic acid-based skin boosters, including the Teosyal Redensity 1 product at BU Aesthetics™ in West Kirby, Merseyside. As well as hyaluronic acid, Teosyal Redensity 1 contains a proprietary mix of eight amino acids, three antioxidants, two minerals, and a B vitamin, which work together to restore, hydrate, and nourish the skin. Unlike traditional dermal fillers, Teosyal Redensity 1 focuses on improving skin quality rather than adding volume, contouring, or restoring the shape of facial features.

Hyaluronic acid provides hydration, the amino acids are essential in the process of cell regeneration, antioxidants protect against free radical damage, minerals, including zinc and copper help protect the health of cells, and vitamins, in this case, Vitamin B6 is helpful for cell metabolism.

By improving hydration within the skin, we can enhance skin quality, density, and elasticity, restoring texture, tone, and radiance to achieve a more youthful, glowing appearance. Teosyal Redensity 1 is suitable for treating the face, neck, hands, décolleté or chest area. The product is delivered using a micro-injection technique.

We take a holistic approach to aesthetic treatments at BU Aesthetics™, seeking to maintain a natural look by restoring, rejuvenating, and enhancing your natural appearance. We can achieve this and create the best version of you by combining treatments, including skin boosters with dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle solutions for a full facial rejuvenation approach to ‘turn back the clock’ and enhance your facial features.

We use skin boosters and Teosyal Redensity 1 to:

  • Improve skin hydration, elasticity, density, tone, and texture to restore thin, damaged skin.
  • Reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and tighten skin through improved hydration and a reduction in skin dryness.
  • Create a smoother, more radiant appearance.
  • Restore balance within the skin to stimulate and increase natural collagen production.

Skin boosters are best delivered as a course of treatment, with 3 treatment sessions of Teosyal Redensity 1, spaced 2-4 weeks apart, to gradually increase the hydration, nourishment, and improvements within the skin.

To determine your suitability for skin booster treatment using Teosyal Redensity 1, we start with a thorough 30-minute consultation with our Independent Nurse Prescriber Caroline. She will take a full medical history to determine if you have any underlying medical conditions or known allergies or are taking any medication that could make you unsuitable or contraindicated for treatment. A history of allergy to hyaluronic acid, lidocaine or anaphylaxis is likely to be contraindicated.

Skin boosters are suitable for men and women of all skin types (colours), so if you are generally in good health, you should be able to have treatment. Treatment with skin boosters is well suited to people who are looking for a ‘boost’ to improve overall skin quality, reduce some fine lines, and achieve a more youthful, glowing complexion or younger-looking hands, making them look ‘healthy’ and garner positive compliments.

If you are currently pregnant or breastfeeding or are under 18 years old, you cannot have treatment. Similarly, if you have damaged or broken skin in the area to be treated or an active bacterial, fungal, or viral infection, this must be resolved before treatment. If you have a history of being prone to the herpes simplex virus with cold sore outbreaks, we can prescribe preventative medication for you to take before your treatment appointment, especially if the skin boosters will be injected around the mouth.

It is important that you discuss what you hope to achieve from skin booster treatment so we can evaluate if it is the right treatment for your concerns. You may be recommended an alternative treatment or additional treatments during your consultation, like dermal fillers for additional contouring and restoration of lost volume or anti-wrinkle treatment with botulinum toxin, which work well alongside skin boosters as part of a full-face rejuvenation approach. All aspects of treatment, including any risks, will be fully explained during your consultation, allowing you to book your treatment appointment or have some time to go away and think about it. Few treatments are performed on the same day as your consultation appointment.

We know that tolerance and sensitivity to pain varies by individual, and everyone is different. It is important to us that we ensure you are comfortable throughout your treatment. Teosyal Redensity 1 contains a local anaesthetic (lidocaine) within the syringe to reduce discomfort during the injection of the product by numbing at the same time.

The hyaluronic acid in Profhilo products is much thinner than the gels in dermal filler products. This means that the product spreads quickly and easily once injected into the skin without resistance from the tissue or discomfort from skin stretching. You may, however, notice a brief stinging sensation during injection.

Most people tolerate treatment very well, and topical anaesthetic or numbing cream is not usually required. We will always aim to make treatments as comfortable as possible and understand that sensitivity to pain varies by individual.

At BU Aesthetics™, we only use well-established, evidence-based skin booster brands and products like Teosyal Redensity 1, which have a body of clinical evidence for their safety.

Downtime from skin booster treatments is minimal, and you can expect to return to your normal activities immediately. However, you should expect some temporary, mild redness, swelling and tenderness, alongside possible mild bruising or itching at the injection points that will resolve within 24-48 hours.

Potential side effects include an outbreak of cold sores (herpes simplex virus) if treatment is near the mouth. However, this can be avoided with preventative treatments prescribed in advance. Rare side effects include hypersensitivity, allergic reactions, or infection. As an Independent Nurse Prescriber, Caroline has significant experience in complications management and can diagnose and prescribe medications if an adverse side effect occurs. Full aftercare advice will be given.

Results will vary by patient based on the condition of your skin at the start of treatment and the degree of correction required. A tailored treatment programme will be recommended.

You should notice immediate improvements to your skin after the first treatment thanks to the hydration from the hyaluronic acid. The continued effects from better-hydrated skin, alongside the action of the proprietary cocktail of active ingredients within Teosyal Redensity 1, including amino acids, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, means results will continue to improve up to 4 weeks after your initial treatment. Subsequent treatment sessions will further augment the results.

The improvements are redensification, improved tone and hydration, leaving increased skin vibrancy and luminosity, or glow, with a more youthful complexion.

According to published clinical study data on patients treated on the face with Teosyal Redensity 1 who were reviewed after 9 weeks following 3 treatment sessions spaced 3 weeks apart, there was a 60% improvement in skin glow, 56% improvement in skin elasticity, 59% improvement in skin texture, and a 61% improvement in hydration. 91.7% of patients reported being satisfied with their treatment, and 90.3% would recommend it to others.

Results are expected to last 6-12 months. However, to maintain your post-treatment results and ongoing glowing skin, we recommend a top-up treatment of one session of Teosyal Redensity 1 every 6 months.
